ORDNANCE DEPOT TALEGAON LEADS MASSIVE CLEANLINESS DRIVE ALONG INDRAYANI RIVER CIVIL-MILITARY PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2025

In a resounding display of environmental stewardship and community collaboration, Ordnance Depot Talegaon organized a mega cleanliness drive along the Indrayani River stretch near Shelarwadi on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025. The initiative brought together over 400 participants, including Army personnel, villagers from Malwadi, Koteshwarwadi, and Shillalwadi, and municipal staff, all united under the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience.”
The drive was conducted under the leadership of Colonel Shashank Singh, Commandant, Ordnance Depot Talegaon, and aimed at restoring the river’s ecological balance, promoting public hygiene, and instilling environmental awareness among the local population.
> “This is more than just a cleanliness campaign—it’s a message of unity, responsibility, and sustainability. The synergy between the Army and the community is the real strength behind this success,” said Col Shashank Singh.
Key highlights of the campaign included:
Joint participation by Army troops and 120+ local villagers.
Deployment of two JCBs and one tractor, provided voluntarily by a environment enthusiastic.
Municipal collaboration for tools, trained manpower, and waste management.
Wall painting with environmental slogans and visuals created by volunteers.
A collective pledge ceremony reinforcing the commitment to protect nature.
The event demonstrated a model for civil-military cooperation in preserving natural resources, echoing the national goals of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and climate resilience.
This community-driven operation not only rejuvenated the riverbank but also strengthened the enduring bond between the Indian Army and the people it serves.
